Scratching the Itch
Do you remember back when your kids were
in elementary school a note would come home
about
lice in the classroom.
All of a sudden your head would itch?
No lice.
Just itch.
That is sort of what happened to me yesterday. There I was watching some YouTube knitting podcasts when a suggested one had a very gripping title. It was about KnitPicks yarn having carpet beetles.
(insert HORROR music here 😬)
All of a sudden I got an itch to go through my stash
and make sure no creepy-crawlies (or flyers) were in MY stash.
Now, I don't HAVE any KnitPicks yarn,
but the itch was there just the same.
But, FIRST I had something I needed to do.

I really wish you had smell-o-puter. This was a-mazing! |

Fresh lavender was bought to fight off the bugs, and I treated myself to THEIR lavender deodorant to fight off the stink. I 💜 their deodorant. |
Back home again I made new sachets for all the yarn bins and then I tackled ....
Mt. WOOL
At last count sometime last year there were 500 skeins.
I know there is a bit more now.
Armed with a glass of turmeric iced tea, an iced latte left over from our coffee visit, my laptop, 24 lavender bags and a whole lot of determination, that pile now looks like this...
Two boxes are missing from the photo.
They are over by the window working to hold my fan.
So .... 5 BIG boxes, 3 medium size boxes, and one small box hold all that yarn.
More organized, bug free, and smelling great.
Ready for some new "fall" cast ons.
Steve questioned me about it not being fall yet,
but if you want new socks for fall
you have to start now.
Hope y'all have a great "bug free" Sunday.
And, I hope reading about this didn't make your head itch.
I’ve slowly been whittling down my yarn stash - no new purchases in several years, but friends have gifted me yarn they’ve purged. I’ll keep knitting and enjoying the yarn I have.
ReplyDeleteI gasped out loud when I saw your stash on the floor. I bet I have as much but to see it like that was jaw dropping. I've fought the bug problem before and it's no fun. I've got everything in bins or zippered bags now. I've got some lavender in a pot on the deck. I never thought to use it in a sachet. I've used those little cedar discs you buy for closets but I haven't replaced them in years. Maybe I need to go take a look.
ReplyDeleteI'd be afraid to dump all my stash and see how much floor it covers! I'm glad to hear all was well and bug free and it's all safely stored away now!
ReplyDeleteThat is a huge pile of yarn but I probably have just as much. I'm hoping to visit the lavender farm in Spokane that I used to go to. I had several of their plants in our yard and I sure miss that aroma when walking out the front door.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
That is such a wonderful photo, all that future knitting. It's fun to go through the stash every so often. Like you, I have mine all packed away so that nothing gets into it that shouldn't so it's good to get it out and see exactly what you've got.
ReplyDeletenow that is a very fun thing to do!!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore lavender. I just put in another big plant.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read Carpet Beetles, I felt that doom along with you. I'm so glad we no longer have any carpet in this house. Those things are...ugh. I bet your house--and you--smell divine now.
In early spring I saw a grey moth in my craft room. I promptly put all yarn in ziplock bags and they all took shifts in the freezer. I could use some lavender too. It was nice to organize the stash. I like Mt. Yarn.
ReplyDeleteI loved that you conquered your mountain of yarn!!! I only got a bug infestation when I bought some bunny fiber that was full of bugs! I bought a bunch of lavender also and eradicated the critters!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe lavender is in full bloom here too. I have cedar blocks in my yarn bins but lavender would be lovely. I’ve been destashing a lot lately but there is still plenty of yarn to keep me busy for another lifetime or two.
ReplyDeleteCarpet Beetles in KnitPicks yarn - say it isn't so. I wonder how many skeins of yarn I actually own. Maybe it is better not to know. Now I want to replace the old cedar pieces in my stash bin. Lavender sachets would be so much nicer.
